Hayden Panettiere and Chad Michael Murray have landed new big screen roles. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the former "Heroes" babe is cast in "Downers Grove", while the "One Tree Hill" hunk nabs a lead role in "The Haunting in Georgia". Both movies take part at 2010 American Film Market.
Panettiere is going to co-star "Twilight" thesp Nikki Reed with Rebecca De Mornay expected to join them too. The thriller is based on the novel by Michael Hornberg and set in a high school in the Chicago suburb where every year, one senior dies a bizarre death before the end of the school year. Panettiere's character fears that she's the next victim.
Bret Easton Ellis is adapting the book into the screenplay while Nelson McCormick ("Prom Night") is set to direct the upcoming movie. "Downers Grove" is scheduled to kick start principal photography next spring in Louisiana.
Murray is also not the only recruited cast member of "The Haunting in Georgia" as Abigail Spencer ("Cowboys and Aliens"), Katee Sackhoff ("Battlestar Galactica") and Emily Alyn Lind ("The Secret Life of Bees") have secured parts in the movie. The foursome will play the members of the real-life Wyrick family, beleaguered by ghosts and a terrifying mystery that haunts their new home.
Murray portrays Andy Wyrick, the blue collar, no-nonsense husband to Spencer's Lisa Wyrick, a young mother struggling with horrifying visions, a curse she shares with her wayward sister Joyce, played by Sackhoff. And now fears have been passed on to her young daughter, Lind's Heidi. Cicely Tyson, who will next be seen in "The Help", has also signed on, THR reports.
Tom Elkins is on board to direct the film which will start shooting in Baton Rouge later this month. David Coggeshall is writing "The Haunting in Georgia", which is latest entry in Gold Circle Films' "Haunting" series.
